Timp Chainstay Protector - Ari Bikes

Timp 2.0
The Timp 2.0 needed a chainstay protector for its unique chainstay design. Matching Ari’s new design language with softer lines.

    Split Method
During the modeling and printing process, I discovered that putting the protector over the cable routing ports would eliminate the need for two additional ugly plugs.

Working with the manufacturer, we molded in a weakness in the rubber that would split when installing a cable derailleur, or protect the hole if the bike came with a wireless derailleur.

After success with the split method, I found some parts of the chainstay needed more coverage. I also added indicators as to where the cable ports are.

    Timp 2.0
The Timp chainstay protector solved not only a functional problem of quieting noise and protecting the chainstays, but also provided an improvement, eliminating the need for unsightly plugs for cable routing through the chainstay.

    Cache - Ari Bikes

    In-frame Storage

We had been developing a system for future frames, both road and mountain, to have access to the inside of the downtube for storage.

We needed a solution for how users would organize their items inside the frames.

    Current Market
Other solutions tend to semi-restrict users to brand system tool sets by designing tool sets to fit perfectly together in a tool roll into the tight down tube.

Ari values compatibility and choice. We wanted to avoid restricting users to a tool system.

In addition, we don’t design our own accessories; therefore, Ari needs a more universal solution.

    Space
The amount of space needed depends on what a user needs to carry. I interviewed six riders who already use internal storage to compile thoughts around items they carry.

    Main Interview Discoveries:
    1. Different rides call for different items.
    2. Different users prefer various types of tools across many brands.
    3. Water and dust can be present; some had rusted tools before.
    4. Current bags/tool rolls got stuck on entry and exit.
